The US Korfball Federation (USKF) is the governing body for korfball in the United States and is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization. Our mission is to advance the sport of korfball in the United States by providing comprehensive support and resources to both new and existing clubs and/or entities. Our mission is to foster the growth and development of korfball at all levels and abilities, creating a thriving community of enthusiasts across the nation.

What is Korfball?

Korfball is a unique, co-ed sport that combines elements of basketball, netball, and handball. Traditionally played by teams of four men and four women (teams of two men and two women in beach korfball), korfball emphasizes cooperation and gender equality. The sport is played on a rectangular court with a goal (korf) at each end. The objective is to score by throwing a ball through the opposing team’s korf.

Why Korfball?

  • Mixed Gender Teams: Korfball is one of the few sports that mandate co-ed teams, promoting gender equality and cooperation.
  • Teamwork and Communication: In korfball, soloplay is impossible. Success requires strong communication and effective teamwork between all players, regardless of gender. This dynamic fosters an environment where each team member’s contributions are vital, encouraging mutual respect and collaboration.
  • Social-Emotional Development: The necessity for teamwork and constant communication in korfball promotes social-emotional development. Players learn essential life skills such as empathy, cooperation, conflict resolution, and resilience, which are valuable both on and off the court.
  • No-Contact Sport: Korfball is a no-contact sport, meaning that players are not allowed to take the ball from each other directly. Female players defend female players and male players defend male players, making it a relatively safe sport compared to many other, ensuring a fair and respectful playing environment.
  • Health and Fitness: Korfball offers a full-body workout, improving cardiovascular health, coordination, and physical fitness.
  • Community: Playing korfball fosters a sense of community and belonging, bringing together individuals from diverse backgrounds.
